How can you vote by post in Germany?
This year between the 23 and the 26 May the EU elections will take place across Europe. Citizens of the European Union are asked to vote new candidates who will represent their interests in the European Parliament. In Germany everyone above the age of 18 is allowed to vote and decide what our future in Europe will look like.
But there's more than one way to cast your vote. In addition to voting at the polling station, postal voting is also a viable option, especially if you're busy on election day. If you want to cast your vote by post, you will need to ask for a ballot paper. You can do this by letter or verbally. You don't need to explain why you want to vote by postal vote.
In Germany every person who is eligible to vote is already registered in an electoral register and doesn't need to register before the election takes place. A notification of when the elections will happen is usually posted 4-6 weeks in advance to every eligible voter.
You can already request the ballot for the EU elections. If you haven't asked for it yet, you still have time until the 24 May. In special cases, you can even get the ballot on the election day itself. The forms have to be at the polling station by the 26 May 2019. They can be delivered in person or sent by post. A stamp is not needed.
Whatever your plans are, make sure you're ready to #GiveAVote on 26 May!
